Post Hurricane Irma

It was our first hurricane to live through in Florida and it was stressful, to say the least. Nemo and the gang also felt the stress. Thankfully, we sustained no damage to the house or boat, but we lost a lot of pieces of trees. Since some lost a whole lot more, we have nothing to complain about. Power came back up within a few days and after a week, we needed some relax time. Since he’s not overly fond of being actually ON the boat, he’s very happy to chill at a dock party.

Personalized artwork

I recently made these these pieces for some boater friends that I wanted to share. I love making artwork personalized like this because it’s not just the “same old” anyone can pick up in a retail store but specific to the tastes and interests of the one it was made for.

Big boys

I always love a nice “Boy and his Dog” portrait. I especially like this one because Charlie is six feet tall and 225lbs, so Nemo sitting next to him gives you a pretty good perspective on just how big my Big Black Dog is! Nemo is a Great Dane in a Black Lab suit. LOL

Dolphin watching

Nemo was quite attentive to the family of dolphins feeding in the marina at Caladesi Island State Park.

Birthday painting

It’s Charlie’s birthday today! While we are in mid-reno of his house, he had casually mentioned that perhaps I would paint a mural of some sort on one of the walls, nothing in particular. I thought about it and decided on the perfect subject: his boat. Not wanting to put anything permanent on the walls, however, I – in my waste not, want not, reuse-recycle-repurpose way – went to my garage to check my available stock.

“Charlie’s Boat”¬† is the result. 48″x62″ on quarter-inch plywood. Our first summer together, we spent several nights anchored out in the Gulf of Mexico on beautiful still waters staring up at all the stars.

Ooops

Getting off the boat the other night, Nemo jumped down onto the pier as usual, until for some strange reason he didn’t walk a straight line off the finger pier and his back leg went off the side of the dock. This had the unfortunate effect of him dropping backward, dog butt first into the water. He was embarrassed by the time we fished him out to say the least and pouted for quite awhile after we got home. My poor, silly dog.

Caladesi Island visit

Nemo spent most of a three day weekend with us out at the State Park where he got to go boating, docking, hiking, and lots of swimming.

Lunch with the humans

Went to lunch with the peeps after a nice swim, rubdown and hanging out by the boat. Love these dog-friendly restaurants: http://www.ozonabluegrill.com

Getting his sea legs

Nemo on the boat getting adapted. He’s been onboard several times now and all I have to do is ask if he wants to go on the boat for him to jump up with tail wagging and run to the door telling me he’s ready. #LuvMyBigGoobieDog

Nemo meets the boat

…..and it went sort of well. Getting him down the dock to the boat was a little tricky since apparently my dog suffers from vertigo, as in, he could see the water moving between the wooden slats below his feet and he kinda freaked out. He flattened himself to the dock near the entrance and wouldn’t move until Charlie went to get him. (smh).

But, once he got to the boat, he was better and even joined us. Baby steps. Baby steps. #LuvMyGoobieDog

Summer vacation

Well, an entire month and then some has slipped by. How does that happen, right? Well, in my case, I’ve been enjoying the Gulf Coast summer here in Florida and spending a lot of time on my boyfriend’s really big boat. These pictures pretty much sum up the past month for me. Ahhhhhhh……….don’t know why it took me so long to finally move down here. I love this place.

Been super busy lately

Wow! I just realized that an entire half a month has gone by in a blink already. How does that happen??? I have been out enjoying the beautiful Florida sunshine and warm weather with someone special in my life, so I’m sure that is my best reason. Seriously, would watching sunsets like this almost every night not make you lose track of time??
