Happy birthday, Shermie

Remembering Shermie on his birthday today. The Sherminator was my original Big Black “Dog” when I first started pet portraits. He would come when called like one of the dogs. Better than the dogs, actually. Philphil trained him well.

R.I.P. Sadie

Our fifteen year old Labrador Retriever Sadie passed away at New Year’s. We had had her with us since she was nine months old. Some of Sadie’s happiest years were spent in Vermont where she greatly enjoyed her neighbors, HannahandJosh (yes, it was always said as one word), especially since Sadie has never known anyone else with hair colour the same as hers since the days of Josh.

Sadie was nanny dog to Sparky, Nemo and then Rico plus several chickens and a cat or two that did not discriminate. She was a very loving, long-suffering, hard-headed dog the colour of a pumpkin.

Other pet memorials of my family can be found here.

Boxer trio at home

It was a sad, yet happy day for me today. I’d grown rather attached to Hoot and Pete these past four weeks as they were becoming themselves, but they were ready to go to their new home. Here are my last photos of The Boys as they went for a ride in the car and met their little brother in their new home, looking quite content to stand  ready to welcome their human as he comes home from work – just like they did when they were alive.

I absolutely love doing this kind of work that helps preserve people’s happy memories of their beloved pets.
