Doodle sketches

I did some drawings to go on the back of the activity/word search pages we put out each weekend at the church. The original idea was that there would be a coloring page for any kids who come, but also a difficult enough word search that the adults would enjoy it as well. These are a few of the church doodles.

Happy birthday, Shermie

Remembering Shermie on his birthday today. The Sherminator was my original Big Black “Dog” when I first started pet portraits. He would come when called like one of the dogs. Better than the dogs, actually. Philphil trained him well.

Finished Orange Grove mural

Finished up the Orange Grove storefront mural at SJ’s International Food Market at 1108 Overcash Drive in Dunedin, Florida over Thanksgiving weekend. This area of town used to be part of a large orange grove back in the day. Dunedin is known as a very walkable and bike-able town, hence the nod to the  antique bike with market baskets. The town is also the spring training base for the Toronto Blue Jays. Since SJ’s IFM is family owned and operated, the Blue Jay are represented as a family of birds. The faux wood signs pointing around the corner to the patio with picnic benches and herb garden tie in to the recycled pallets used for the fresh herbs the store’s owner, Som, uses in her fresh Thai cuisine made to order and available for dining in or taking out. Find them on Facebook or @SJSINTERNATIONALMARKET.

65 painting hours went into laying down multiple primer layers for a thick, almost vinyl-like base, followed by the actual mural painting, then finished up with multiple layers of clear polyacrylic to protect the design from scratches and curious fingernails. Here are some highlights of the design, including the antique bicycle, faux wood signs and a Blue Jay family.

Diva flashback

Oh my goodness. One of the annoying things about having gone through being the recipient of toxic chemicals being pumped directly into your heart (aka chemotherapy) is the memory loss, or rather memory vagueness of my past self. I mean, I can still sit down and type 99 words per minute and Grammar Cop the heck out of anything written, but remembering that I used to sing in a three octave range is sketchy.

Don’t remember what I started looking for on YouTube, but one of my old videos popped up in the search section, which then reminded me I had an old Caffeinated Music YT page (formerly under suzysunshineobx) with music videos I had done to either post songs I liked whilst playing with MovieMaker or to teach my past choirs songs we needed to learn. Anyway. I came across this Mozart piece that I have sung for years and recorded quickly for someone who called me from far away and who needed to learn it quickly so would I please record it for them. Talk about long ago and far away.

Try not to laugh.

Personalized artwork

I recently made these these pieces for some boater friends that I wanted to share. I love making artwork personalized like this because it’s not just the “same old” anyone can pick up in a retail store but specific to the tastes and interests of the one it was made for.

Upscale Resale storefront windows

In between rain showers and the humidity, it took me more than normal time to paint Janice’s windows, but they are up and done. I think I will be going back and adding a top border with leopard print…. and possibly doing the same with her unpainted mailbox post outside the front door….. hmmmmmmm 🙂

Grey muzzles

IMG_8199My Nemo’s muzzle is gone nearly all silver. He was right up near the pillow when I took this picture and I am surprised it came out in focus. He usually makes the effort to sneak up next to me not so much to cuddle the way Rico does, but because he wants something he doesn’t have thumbs to get. Dogs have no guile.

The big guy is five and a half years old now. I still remember the day he was born, when the Puppy Fairy delivered nine puppies to Daisy, the pregnant dog I had rescued from the neighbor next door. We won’t go there right now. This is about happy stuff and we did find a good home for Daisy.

Nemo grew up with not one, but two nanny dogs, the first being Emily the Great Pyrenees who passed away when Nemo was just six months old and the second being Sadie, the Yellow Lab who just recently passed away. He has lived with cats and chickens his entire life as well as with Sparky, his elder dog brother by two years. Nemo’s younger dog brother would be Rico, who is just over three years old. Phoofie has been a mainstay and nemesis for Nemo’s entire life so far. Of course, at eleven years old, the cat pretty much just naps all day and ignores the dogs anyway.

When I got sick last year, the lying around staring at the ceiling activity level I have had makes me appreciate that my dogs are here providing in-home dog therapy the way they do. When I get my hair to grow back, I’m not even going to complain about it being all grey any more. At this point, I will be satisfied to simply have hair.

My shiny, black puppy has grown to 140lbs at his heaviest, 125lbs when he’s at his best weight, and has acquired quite a few silver threads on his schnozzola. Grey hairs signify life lived, history made, time spent. Nobody will ever love you the way your dog does.

Day 16: Grey muzzles are beautiful.

Birthday painting

It’s Charlie’s birthday today! While we are in mid-reno of his house, he had casually mentioned that perhaps I would paint a mural of some sort on one of the walls, nothing in particular. I thought about it and decided on the perfect subject: his boat. Not wanting to put anything permanent on the walls, however, I – in my waste not, want not, reuse-recycle-repurpose way – went to my garage to check my available stock.

“Charlie’s Boat”  is the result. 48″x62″ on quarter-inch plywood. Our first summer together, we spent several nights anchored out in the Gulf of Mexico on beautiful still waters staring up at all the stars.

Dogtoberfest 2014

Had a great time with the humans here in Dogedin. Not only did Charlie and I stop in to the kissing booth at Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue’s hot pink tent, but the Doxie sculptures were auctioned off to help raise money for Suncoast Animal League’s support. Here I am with Dr. Cal Hay of Tampa Surgical Services who went home with the Doxies. Great time as always!

Cherry Blossoms window

I painted the storefront windows at SomSom’s handmade boutique here in town. We did a pair of Sakura, or Japanese Cherry Blossom, trees and butterflies.

Storefront window: shore birds

My theme for the window was shore birds. Dunedin, Florida has State Park beaches kept in their naturalized state and are just gorgeous. Here on Second Time Treasures‘ storefront are some of the critters we did for this season.

My biggest fans

2014-06-04 15.22.29The fussing and whining that goes on as I walk twenty five paces to the storefront and go in and then the cheering that ensues as I again approach the car …. well, who wouldn’t be completely flattered? #LuvMyGoobieDogs
