Big boys

I always love a nice “Boy and his Dog” portrait. I especially like this one because Charlie is six feet tall and 225lbs, so Nemo sitting next to him gives you a pretty good perspective on just how big my Big Black Dog is! Nemo is a Great Dane in a Black Lab suit. LOL

Dolphin watching

Nemo was quite attentive to the family of dolphins feeding in the marina at Caladesi Island State Park.

Birthday painting

It’s Charlie’s birthday today! While we are in mid-reno of his house, he had casually mentioned that perhaps I would paint a mural of some sort on one of the walls, nothing in particular. I thought about it and decided on the perfect subject: his boat. Not wanting to put anything permanent on the walls, however, I – in my waste not, want not, reuse-recycle-repurpose way – went to my garage to check my available stock.

“Charlie’s Boat”¬† is the result. 48″x62″ on quarter-inch plywood. Our first summer together, we spent several nights anchored out in the Gulf of Mexico on beautiful still waters staring up at all the stars.

Tail wagging good time

Nemo is half Black Lab and half Great Dane. His head looks very Lab-like, but those claw feet and most of his behavior patterns are all Dane. In dog shows, Labrador Retrievers are to demonstrate their rudder-like tails wagging at all times, because that is a Lab trait. Nemo’s tail rarely wags unless he wants something, but on our weekend out at Caladesi Island recently, he splished and splashed around in a quiet cove for nearly three hours. He had a grand time as evidenced by the latent perpetually-wagging-tail Lab genes that showed up. #LuvMyBigGoobieDog

Caladesi Island visit

Nemo spent most of a three day weekend with us out at the State Park where he got to go boating, docking, hiking, and lots of swimming.

Storefront window: shore birds

My theme for the window was shore birds. Dunedin, Florida has State Park beaches kept in their naturalized state and are just gorgeous. Here on Second Time Treasures‘ storefront are some of the critters we did for this season.

Lunch with the humans

Went to lunch with the peeps after a nice swim, rubdown and hanging out by the boat. Love these dog-friendly restaurants: http://www.ozonabluegrill.com

Getting his sea legs

Nemo on the boat getting adapted. He’s been onboard several times now and all I have to do is ask if he wants to go on the boat for him to jump up with tail wagging and run to the door telling me he’s ready. #LuvMyBigGoobieDog

Nemo meets the boat

…..and it went sort of well. Getting him down the dock to the boat was a little tricky since apparently my dog suffers from vertigo, as in, he could see the water moving between the wooden slats below his feet and he kinda freaked out. He flattened himself to the dock near the entrance and wouldn’t move until Charlie went to get him. (smh).

But, once he got to the boat, he was better and even joined us. Baby steps. Baby steps. #LuvMyGoobieDog

Summer vacation

Well, an entire month and then some has slipped by. How does that happen, right? Well, in my case, I’ve been enjoying the Gulf Coast summer here in Florida and spending a lot of time on my boyfriend’s really big boat. These pictures pretty much sum up the past month for me. Ahhhhhhh……….don’t know why it took me so long to finally move down here. I love this place.
