Personalized artwork

I recently made these these pieces for some boater friends that I wanted to share. I love making artwork personalized like this because it’s not just the “same old” anyone can pick up in a retail store but specific to the tastes and interests of the one it was made for.

Birthday painting

It’s Charlie’s birthday today! While we are in mid-reno of his house, he had casually mentioned that perhaps I would paint a mural of some sort on one of the walls, nothing in particular. I thought about it and decided on the perfect subject: his boat. Not wanting to put anything permanent on the walls, however, I – in my waste not, want not, reuse-recycle-repurpose way – went to my garage to check my available stock.

“Charlie’s Boat”  is the result. 48″x62″ on quarter-inch plywood. Our first summer together, we spent several nights anchored out in the Gulf of Mexico on beautiful still waters staring up at all the stars.

Dogtoberfest 2014

Had a great time with the humans here in Dogedin. Not only did Charlie and I stop in to the kissing booth at Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue’s hot pink tent, but the Doxie sculptures were auctioned off to help raise money for Suncoast Animal League’s support. Here I am with Dr. Cal Hay of Tampa Surgical Services who went home with the Doxies. Great time as always!

My Other Dog – continued

Today, I got started on the facial features on Rico. The rest of the weekend portends to be a blur with church supper, pageant and three worship services to play for, so hopefully come Monday, I can add some dog toes. I love doing dog toes ……. little piggies ❤Rico progress2 ❤ #LuvMyOtherDog #LuvMyOtherHuman

My Other Dog

Since I miss him so much when I don’t have him with me (since he’s not actually my dog), I decided my next piece was going to be one of Rico. This is a sneak peek at how he’s coming along. 🙂

Red Dachshund

I had started working on a Dachshund over the summer, then set him aside since he wasn’t a commissioned piece. I primed him and then thought perhaps I should post his “ready-to-be-personalized” photo in case someone would like him personalized to their own Doxie’s colouring. Of course, once I get started on painting, I just can’t seem to stop, so he wound up as a Little Red Doxie!

20″ nose to tip of tail and 13″ high. This guy is in the miniature category. Unless sold before then, he will be part of Viv Reugger’s special exhibition in March 2014 at Stirling Art Studios on Broadway in Dunedin.

The pair of Cocker Spaniels is finished! Thank you to Pat for allowing me to create these memorial pieces of her beloved fur family ♥

Cocker Spaniel – Daisy

Daisy was a friend’s beloved Buff Cocker Spaniel who was her sidekick everywhere. Still some more work to go, but here are some progress shots:

BBDS YouTube page

Uploaded a few videos to the BigBlackDogStudio YouTube page, plus added some info for visitors as to what they should hope to find there:

Our BigBlackDogStudio YT channel features videos about our Big and Little Black Dogs, Nemo and Rico, respectively. Okay, so we only borrow Rico, but Nemo is very attached to the little guy, so we consider the baby as part of the fam.

BigBlackDogStudio itself is our art studio specializing in custom pet sculpture, whether of a living pet or of one who has passed away. Working from photographs, we match the beloved pet’s colour and markings to the sculpture as a lasting remembrance of those hairy family members who bless our lives. Both miniature versions and full life-sized versions can be created. For pricing and photographs of pets already memorialized, please visit our website, BigBlackDogStudio.com.

Blessings and Dogspeed, dear friend.

Boxer trio at home

It was a sad, yet happy day for me today. I’d grown rather attached to Hoot and Pete these past four weeks as they were becoming themselves, but they were ready to go to their new home. Here are my last photos of The Boys as they went for a ride in the car and met their little brother in their new home, looking quite content to stand  ready to welcome their human as he comes home from work – just like they did when they were alive.

I absolutely love doing this kind of work that helps preserve people’s happy memories of their beloved pets.

Boxer pair – Hoot and Pete

It’s been a fast four weeks working on this life-sized pair, but they are now ready to go to their forever home with Rocky.

Hoot was a brindled Boxer mix and Pete was a snow white Boxer. The impression I got from the photographs provided is that Hoot was a kind of goofy, vocal and huggy kind of dog and Pete appears to have had the patience of a saint, long-suffering and mellow. All dogs have their bursts of bounciness, but Pete appears to have been a champion napper. Both of the boys clearly loved their little buddy, Rocky, from the snuggle photos I saw. I hope that their personalities come through and that they help keep alive for their owner the memories of his beloved pets.

Boxers – in progress

A pair of life-sized Boxers is in the works – blast this infuriating humidity, though! Here the boys are coming along as their ears dry in the breeze of my fan. 😀
